Musings on some words

Labas

what fascinates me about the word labas is the possibility that it had been a derivative of the french phrase la-bas(which means over there), if it didnt evolve from our own language. as far as i know, we didnt acquire it from the spanish language, so it has to be french. or is this merely a coincidence? i'd like to think not, considering the allusive character of the filipino word to that of the french, come on, both words points out a place, right? over there is almost like saying, it's outside.

Mama, Papa

is it also coincidence that for most languages, ma and pa, are present in calling the mother and father? ma is one of the easiest words to pronounce, especially for a baby. it's nasalized, doesnt involve tongue movement, and the lip is only required to open a bit to pronounce it. This contrasts of course with the pronunciation of pa, which requires pausing the breathe, it isnt nasalized, or the air passage to the nose is closed unlike with ba, which is just constricted. and pro...

Stages of Aethrnia

[Parts of the Project | Purpose | Goal or the reason for creation | Timeline]

I normally dont keep track of what I've done, and where i'm heading. But just for the record, I'm listing down what I've achieved (in a way), and where I'm heading. And also, like what i've said before, I'm squatting here for the mean time.

1. Map Making. A Cheap Substitute for D&D.
Puppy meets Skateboard

You know the saying that pets take after their masters? That just dawned on me this morning. I was gonna tape/record one of my flip tricks (to check why my deck slips) when our puppy came and entertained me. Too bad, he's too small and light to make it move.

Again, I ramble.

I talked with one of the electricity crew upon passing a power line poste which they were fixing. And I was annoyed to hear that power's gonna return on July 7. I just finished paying my philhosting account, and i was eager to put everything up this weekend. but hell, how am i gonna even upload my files when my vaio's battery life is dead. well, cursing aside, i begged the sales customer support of philhosting to move the activation of my account to july 7, but instead they rewarded me with an invoice, date written June 27. so much for trying.

Anyhow, I'm still hoping that it's just the invoice. I hope they wont give me my account details yet tomorrow. Anyway, about this day. It's boring. Terribly. The power was out. Although I managed to fix the computer of one of my underclasses, her ddr cards got oxidized/a bit rusty i think. We got it working by transferring an older one to it. I spent the afternoon trying to motivate myself to go backpacking in the forested hills of miagao. I forgo...

Lets say I'm squatting here for the moment

I guess, it goes without saying that it's been a long while since i've last posted anything here. There's a lot of things that changed the past months, not really life-changing nor maturing, but in its own way, it had made a significant impact on the way i see things now. I still yet have to overcome personal issues, prejudices and the like, to better deal with a wider range of people. This begs the question, why? if you've been reading my website, which by now, is probably dead/parked by ploghost, you'd probably know why. I've been testing the waters of creating something that might be as fulfilling as it is daunting. I wouldnt reveal this yet, since it's too early to count the eggs in my basket. But again, if you did read a bit, you'd probably have an idea of what it is. I'll just post the link here along with my new site.

Anyway, the past few days with bagyo frank around, I spent a considerable amount of time helping my cousins modify their motorcycles, and yep, i did learn a great ...

I haven't changed at all

They say, one of our happiest memories come from childhood. Perhaps, this is because back then, we were starry-eyed children cherished and protected by our parents and loved ones from the harsh realities of life.

Despite having abandonment issues when I was a kid (my parents were always abroad, you see), and being a problem-child, I nevertheless had been one of those starry-eyed children, and I realized now, that I still am, today. I was reminded of this experience when I found out that a particular friend of mine also used to have pet goldfishes. Anyway, let me go back 10 years ago.

Being a poor kid in a private school is tough. Your classmates would constantly talk about the newest shows on cable TV and you don't even had any inkling who the hell Johnny Bravo is. Of course, I got an idea of what's new on local channels. I used to travel three blocks to my uncle's house just to watch the news and games of basketball. anyway, it wasn't exactly easy back then. I only got an all...

Blog update issues

actually i got no alibi for being unable to update this since I got this thing listed in my wordpress blogroll. lately, I've had lotsa papers to pass. which I still havent finished because I'm too lazy, and I'm sick. medically. I'm taking that terribly tasting, actually too bland, medicine-in-a-sachet-for-acidic-people. Even the smell of the fluid itself is enough to make me vomit. well... as long as it could make me better, i'll endure.

Yep. I absolutely had no idea, where to begin with, after I left you guys out with what happened after getting back in iloilo. to make a long story short, "it all worked out in the end".

A recent digged article states that people who often blogged are lonely, attention-seeking people. I definitely do not agree to the lonely and attetion seeking parts here. As for me, I just blogged about things, so that at least people could see me in a different light. Not that I need their attention. Mind you, I've had so much attention given to me when I was growing ...

stay in quezon city at 11 in the morning, and arrived in NAIA
centennial airport terminal 2 at 1 pm in pasay, I checked in a couple

trepidation. I killed time by listening to some mp3s... actually, the
song by dashboard confessional, "several ways to die tryin" had been
stucked in my head for quite sometime now. hehehe. well, back to the
story. After listening to it until i got all the lyrics all messed up,
i played some games... "Tower Bloxx", i had a hard time concentrating
since a group of multinationals.... international/exchange students by
the looks of it... were chatting really loudly. an asian, an aussie and
uh, a dutch or a brit (welsh)... anyway, i just found it a bit

my headache

I've been mildly sick this day. I woke up with a backache this morning, probably the result of my skip-a-thon, a skipping rope marathon last sunday pm. I had such a headache this morning that whenever I look at a bright light, i'd just go dizzy. its quite a relief however that I managed to finally finish my enrolment.

I've been thinking (also searching) of something smart and witty to post to my blogs, but nothing worthwhile turned up as I blogged about. Anyhow, I've taken my first class in podcasting 101 at cnet. Only assignment we had is to introduce ourselves to the class. Quite lame for an online class, if you ask me. I'll wait and see if the class would get better in the future.

Both my female hamsters are cranky for some time now, I guess they're pregnant already. I have to separate them with the others soon. I'll try to get rid of the syrian genes of the third generation.
Problems with 6apart at friendster.

Managing multiple blog accounts had been sort of a headache for me. especially since I wanted them all to be "updated". For the past couple of hours, I'd been trying to access my blog in friendster, but to no avail. Anyhow, I figured out, I'd better write here in multiply na lang. :D

yesterday, I was supposed to finish my clearance, but I moved it to today because I was supposed to meet with the rest of the yfc guys at JD bakery cafe. Their sandwich reminds me of that of subway, its a pity they cleared out because of the lack of customers. Anyhow, we met, the ycom heads jeremy, denden, katkat and other yfc leaders like kuya jeff and ate aiza. The afternoon after the JD affair was spent malling with Jem and katkat, looking for an affordable yet nice acoustic guitar. We came upon this sports shop, and I decided to buy a jumping rope. Yep, a bloody jumping rope... just to strengthen my resolve in getting myself in shape this semester. Mind you, there's an idea in psychology that actions ...

UGC Profiteers

Well, yeah. Google Adsense is tolerable enough for websites and blogs whose authors wishes an extra side dish of income, but that easily becomes profiteering when someone steals the UGC (User Generated Content) of websites such as Youtube, Google Videos or iFilm and compile them into a personal website, claiming it to be their material...

Sheesh. Outrageous. Talk about actual infringement of intellectual property rights. And what's worse, the actual owners of the produced home videos or parodies doesnt have any inkling that their materials are being used by another person to harvest money.

http://wired.com/wired/archive/14.10/ebaum.html

If you think about it though, its a cunning ploy to make dirty money...
And be tempted to try it for yourself. Anyway, no one gets hurt, right?
right... sheesh.
Changing lanes

For too long, I've been a slacker. By God's grace, I finally realized
this immature way of lifestyle I've been living for the past years.
Sidestepping responsibility whenever possible, shunning commitments and
as such, and of course, self centered ness leading into a yuppie-istic
kind of lifestyle driven by short-term rewards.

So, how do I erase or at least, change years of piled up slacker habit?
First of all, is to be independent, which would particularly mean that
I have to wash my own clothes, cook my own food, and perhaps, the most
radical change, spend my own hard-earned money. I used to fixed
computers during my spare time. I could still continue this sideline
though most of the time, I neither take or ask for my payment from my
clients/friends... It's about time I did, I know they'll be more than
happy to help me with my personal development. Ecclessiastes tells us
to enjoy things while it lasts, but still then... just a couple more
weeks, and I'll be leaving my...
